Over the years, Madrid has welcomed people of all ages and backgrounds, each bringing with them their own history and cultural baggage. Arriving at different times, each of them experienced a culture shock in which they encountered moments of joy and enrichment as well as challenges and obstacles. This cultural interaction, an experience that confronts different ways of life, values, and traditions, has shaped each person in their own way.
This project presents twenty people of different nationalities, representing the six continents (Africa, South America, North America, Asia, Oceania, and Europe), as they are today, highlighting the new identity that has emerged as a result of the fusion of two cultures over the years.
Revisiting their beginnings in the city, these individuals were photographed in 2023 in their original places of residence in Madrid. Along with the photo shoots, video interviews were conducted with 20 questions related to their experiences, which form the backdrop to the black-and-white images. These monochrome photographs were taken in different parts of the city and not necessarily in the neighborhoods of the people portrayed. They reflect the emotions, both positive and negative, experienced by the protagonists during their initial cultural encounters under the subjective gaze of the author.
The project also includes a self-published photo book, produced in 2025, which compiles and expands on the work carried out.
